The mission of the Dr. Bernett Johnson Sayre Health Center is to provide reachable, culturally aware, community-based primary and preventive healthcare services to their underserved West Philadelphia community and surrounding areas. When this federally qualified health care center (FQHC) received funds to expand their facility’s capacity during the pandemic, they turned to B&F for help managing the renovation.
In the middle of the pandemic, Sayre Health Clinic received emergency government funding through the CARES program to renovate their clinic so they could provide services to some of the communities hardest hit by the virus. The project included repurposing an existing corridor space to create four new exam rooms with adjacent administrative workstations and the renovation of lab space, offices, exam rooms, and the staff workroom.
Most community-based healthcare facilities do not have the budget that major health systems have. Yet these facilities must meet the same regulatory requirements and utilize the latest technologies. Working within a tight budget, we helped increase patient capacity while making sure to limit disruptions to the clinic’s important work and medical staff schedules. You might say it was a surgical strike (sorry, we couldn’t resist!).
