Identifying Projects and Teams
After consolidating its councils, the Girl Scouts of Eastern PA (GSEP) engaged in a Master Planning exercise to determine which of its camps it would keep and modernize, and which ones would be sold. They then asked B&F to manage the design and construction process by identifying projects, selecting architects and contractors, and overseeing all facets of the work at Camps Shelly Ridge, Laughing Waters, and Mosey Wood.
Three Projects, Three Municipalities
Simultaneous projects occurring in three different municipalities presented unique challenges with regard to land development and building permits. Many of these camps have existed for decades, and new regulations now impacted how and where structures could be built.
Skillfully Negotiating Approvals
We helped to advocate on behalf of the Girl Scouts to obtain the required approvals. Skillful negotiations and creative problem solving, including changing the site of a new lodge to a different part of the property in an adjacent township, allowed the projects to proceed.
Adventure Time!
In addition to new multi-purpose facilities and infrastructure improvements, the projects included unusual “adventure elements,” such as ropes courses, climbing walls, and dueling zip lines that travel over a lake. B&F experts ensured that all work was completed with particular attention to camper safety, the organization’s budget, and in time for the opening of the next camp season.
