We are thrilled to share a remarkable update about an extraordinary project: the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. which has recently completed a transformative renovation, reopening its doors to the public after a several year closure for construction.
In June, the Folger reopened a building that displays arguably the most important Shakespeare collection in the world. Surrounded by serene memorial gardens, this space offers a quiet and reflective oasis upon entry. Renovating a landmark of this magnitude presented significant challenges, but the project effectively addressed issues such as enhancing accessibility and modernizing air-handling systems for heating and cooling without compromising historical integrity. Preserving the building’s unique historical features was prioritized, including its original façade. Working alongside KieranTimberlake, Gilbane, Blue Cadet, and Studio Joseph, we renovated a 34,000 sq ft area along with a below-grade addition of 6,000 sq ft, totaling a construction budget of $54.5 million.
